1919 Time Capsule from Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital Cornerstone

On October 5, 2019, Alex Vastola assisted M.’.W.’. William Sardone, Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of the State of New York, in the opening of a 1919 time capsule excavated from the cornerstone of the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital at the Masonic Care Community in Utica, NY. During his lecture, Vastola will share the contents of the time capsule and provide a history of the artifacts and their donors.
Alexander Vastola is a Fellow-Craft in Yorktown-Diamond-Thistle No. 55 and is the current director of the Chancellor Robert R. Livingston Masonic Library. Prior to becoming Library Director, Alex worked as the Archives Assistant for the Century Association Archives Foundation (CAAF), an Archives Consultant for Jan Hird Pokorny Associates, Inc. (JHPA), and a researcher for the New York Preservation Archive Project (NYPAP). He holds a B.A. from Vassar College in Medieval and Renaissance Studies, a Certificate in Museum Studies from SUNY Purchase, and an MLIS in Library and Information Science with a Certificate in Archives from Pratt Institute’s School of Information.
