This talk is a comparative analysis of the ancient Mystery Schools and the Fraternity of Freemasonry. Thomas will explore the meaning of “initiation” and its aim of realizing one’s potential as a human goal. He will consider the common characteristics of the Mysteries and Freemasonry, especially secrecy, oaths and brotherhood. Finally, Tom will elaborate on the key components of each society: things recited, things shown, and things performed.

The Presenter: Thomas D. Worrel, who was initiated into Mill Valley Lodge # 356 in Mill Valley, California in 1986. He is a 32° Scottish Rite Mason, a Royal Arch Mason, a member of the Allied Masonic Degrees and an associate member of the Lodge of Living Stones in Leeds, England. Thomas holds a B.A. in Religious Studies from Maryville College, TN; an M.B.A. from the University of San Francisco; and, an M.A. from the Dominican School of Philosophy & Theology at Berkeley, CA. He currently resides in New York City.
